YOHIO: Breaking Boundaries in Visual Kei World

Whenever you turn on the television, or go online to a Japanese entertainment show or website, mostly all artists are of Japanese origin. Since Japan's music styles are becoming more popular outside of Japan, there are many who now dream to become a Japanese superstar or pop idol, and submit their videos to online social media sites such as Nico Nico, or Youtube, in the hopes that maybe they'll be discovered. Can foreign girls or boys be accepted as an JPop, Jrock, or Visual Kei idol? This question has been asked on many search engines and forums, and here are some of the answers.

Regardless if your a seasoned gal or just getting into the gyaru trend, Purikura is a must have for every gal to experience at least once in her lifetime. What is Purikura you ask? Purikura (translates to Print Club), is a popular booming trend among all the teens and young adults in Japan, as well as in East Asia in general. It's a booth where you can take quick photos and customize them to your own desire, from making your eyes look wider, to making your skin look wider. Lucky me, I've experienced Purikura for the first time last Summer at a local mall, and just recently last weekend when I payed a visit to Greens Point Mall, took some more pix. But when I'm dressed nicely and in for a quick photo session, I always grab my phone, take a quick snap, and edit my photos puri style! On my phone, there are so many puri editing apps, offering a variety of options for me to choose from, but which app do I favor the most?  Here are some of the apps that I believe are a must have for all gals to download, and you know what makes them all even better? They're free of charge!

Heroes of Cosplay

okay, almost all of us has our little weekly television fix, weather we mark the calender for when a music award will show, or set our dvr up on series recording on our favorite series. For this year, my fix each week is to not miss an episode of Dance Moms, America's Got Talent, and just recently, Heroes of Cosplay on SyFi.   For those who are not familiar with the show, I'll catch you up to speed. The Heroes of Cosplay focuses on various styles of cosplayers and allows us to view into the competitive world of Cosplay, from costume design- to competition.  Personally, when my friend and I wanted to enter into the Anime Matsuri Cosplay Competition two years ago, I'm glad that we decided not to, since we probably would of lost and wouldn't be taken seriously. While for those who are interested in being involved in cosplay for the fun of it, think again! The more exerienced cosplayers are very serious when it comes to their work, and for some is what helps put food on the table.

How Gyaru all Began!

Gyaru fashion has gained a large follow worldwide, but how, where, and when did this fad begin? Right here in the United States of America in the Valleys of California! Yes, gal fashion began in the eighties by ditzy, spoiled, airheads who created the words like "whatever," "way", "As if", and the popular saying that most teens today can't form a sentence without, "like!"  These materialistic California girls are well known as Valley Girls. V-Gals have many similarities to gyaru. Like how gyaru have gyaru moji, the Valley girls have Valspeek, their own adaption of the english  language.  In the late 80's, the Valley girl subculture has spread across the united states and had gotten so popular to the point that they were even Valley Girl characters in movies/ television shows! The photo above features a screenshot of the of the 1980's film Valley Girl, which was about, you guessed it, Valley Girls in the Valleys of California. In the movie, many of the popular 80's classics hits were introduced into the film, making the soundtrack very popular.  One popular group, the Bangles even appeared in the film! How cool is that?

Japan's New Music Genre: Fusion Metal

Metal and Pop are two different types of music styles with very different fan followings, but is it possible for the two to be combined? Well Japan has combined the music genres under Toy Factory Music Label in 2010 and the young all girl group is still going strong. They simply call this group, BABY METAL, and are now have an international fan following with their unique style of music. The young metal singer in AGT this year has no comparison to what Baby Metal can do. For those who are fans of Jpop idol music like AKB48, or for the headbangers Versailles or SuG, you'll definitely find a place in your heart for them. Below is their first single that was released online on Youtube featuring Moa Metal, Su Metal, and Yui Metal. I hope you enjoy, and welcome to the world of Japanese fusion pop-Metal music.

Ulzzang Guide for Dark Skinned Girls Pt.1

Annyong, Dollies!

Do you know what the word Ulzzang, means?

The Korean word Ulzzang literally means best face in English translation. Originally this style was only widely popular in Korea, but now, many foreigners are beginning to like the style. The Ulzzang style is relatively easy to achive, but for those who are of color, its quite hard to find products that will suit you. So in this post, I'm going to change my usual style of fashion for a more down to earth natural look. Yes, I'm going Ulzzang.
